More than 500 works have been submitted to the XIII Bujaraloz Short Film Competition.
The organization has planned an edition with online and blended activities, which will be adapted to the evolution of the pandemic, with a virtual awards ceremony to be held next December.
The XIII Bujaraloz Short Film Contest has once again registered a new success of participation with more than 500 works in competition, which the jury is evaluating during these weeks. The organizers, the association “Monegrinos Amigos del Séptimo Arte”, despite the unprecedented situation that is causing the pandemic, has decided to go ahead with a new edition, always complying with health regulations, and adapting programming to exceptional circumstances.
In this sense, the director of the Contest, Gema Enfedaque Rozas, has declared that “now more than ever we believe that we have a duty to support culture and do our bit from our means”. He also wanted to thank all the people who have decided to enter the contest in this edition for their participation, “which will be very different from those that have taken place so far, but in which we will continue to put all our illusion as every year ”.
The awards ceremony will be in virtual format and the winners of this edition will participate in it, along with those people who, from the first moment, have been supporting this cultural initiative. “The rest of the activities are planned to be face-to-face, but not concentrated in three days, as was customary, but the programming will be delayed in time and will be adapted as the pandemic situation allows,” reported Enfedaque, who has advanced that during the next month of December the planned exhibitions will be held and the screenings will be held in different sessions, “so that the residents of Bujaraloz can continue to enjoy the short films, always complying with the sanitary security measures and established prevention”.
The more than 500 short films, trailers and scripts will compete for the “Rosa de Los Monegros”. Award that will receive the best works in the categories of national short fiction, Aragonese, animation, local; as well as, award for the best performance, best national film trailer and the public special. Throughout its thirteen editions, the contest has received more than 5,000 entries.
From the first edition in which seven short films competed to the current one, with more than 500 in competition, a long way has been traveled, the result of the efforts of an entire town, Bujaraloz, which is committed to promoting cinema in rural areas. And it is that, throughout its more than ten years of history, this contest has achieved different milestones. Among them, it has achieved the record of becoming the youngest festival with the lowest budget and most participation in all of Spain.
In addition, the festival has the figure of a godmother or godfather who clothes the contest and to whom a tribute is paid. This figure has fallen on actresses and actors such as Luisa Gavasa, Itziar Miranda, María José Moreno, Carlos Iglesias, Laura Gómez Lacueva, Elena Furiase, Juli Fábregas, Antonio Dechén, Ignacio Estaregui and Andrea del Río in the last edition, which also featured the presence of the director and actress Nata Moreno, who received the award “In Monegros is rolled”, for her work ‘Ara Malikian, a life between the ropes’ shot in part in the salt flats of Bujaraloz and that, after the Monegros award, It received important awards such as the Goya for the best documentary film or the best documentary film at the Forqué Awards, among others.
