‘The forbidden world’ of Salvador Calvo will be released with the title of ‘Adú’ on January the 31st

On January the 31st of next year, ‘Adú’ premiers, the definitive title of the new feature film by Salvador Calvo, which was previously titled ‘A Forbidden World’. Starring Luis Tosar, Anna Castillo, Álvaro Cervantes, Jesús Carroza and Miquel Fernández, the film is the debut of the young actors Moustapha Oumarou and Zayiddiya Disssou, chosen after months of casting in several countries of the African continent and who have become one of the great discoveries throughout the filming.
The main cast are set on several different natural settings of Africa, from the jungle and the desert to the border with Spain, and will show spectacular landscapes of the Republic of Benin, a country that has hosted for the first time in its history the filming of an international feature film, which culminated in Spain last April (Madrid and Murcia). The filming lasted seven weeks.
For this production, Telecinco Cinema has once again worked with Ikiru Films and La Terraza Films, travel companions with experience in international filming, such as ‘El Cuaderno de de Sara’, developed in Africa and ‘Yucatán’ which spanned through three continents on board of a Cruise ship.
‘ADÚ’ is a production by Ghislain Barrois and Álvaro Augustin (Telecinco Cinema), Edmon Roch (Ikiru Films), Javier Ugarte (La Terraza Films) and Un Mundo Prohibido AIE, with the collaboration of Mediaset España and Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group and the ICAA financing. It shall be distributed by Paramount Pictures Spain.
“It is always a luxury to work with Mediaset, they are extraordinary partners. In the case of Telecinco Cinema, if they hadn’t believed from the beginning in ‘A forbidden world’ this movie would not exist. It is true that this film is more in the line of ‘El Cuaderno de Sara’, where we also worked with Mediaset, ”producer Edmon Roch told Audiovisual451.
With a budget of five million euros, ‘Adú’ received the maximum amount of one million euros, in the single call for general ICAA grants in 2018. “In my opinion the film is like a modern Tom Sawyer. It is a drama but it is an adventure, even if it reflects on a hard reality, ”says Javier Ugarte.
’ADÚ’ is one of the most complicated movies we have filmed with Telecinco Cinema. Filming in Africa is always very hard and demanding for the team because of the difficulties in obtaining the necessary resources to get ahead with the production. In return, it offers incomparable natural scenarios and very difficult to find elsewhere. It is a road movie that starts in Cameroon and ends in Spain, so the film had to show in detail the trip taken by its protagonists, ”says Álvaro Augustín.
In a desperate attempt to reach Europe and crouched before an airstrip in Cameroon, a six-year-old boy and his older sister wait to sneak into the holds of an airplane. Not too far away, an environmental activist contemplates the terrible image of an elephant, dead and fangless.
Not only does he have to fight against poachers, but also deal with the arrival of his daughter from Spain. Thousands of kilometers to the north, in Melilla, a group of civil guards prepare to face the furious crowd of sub-Saharian people who have begun the assault on the fence. Three stories linked by a central theme, in which none of its protagonists know that their destinies are bound to meet and that their lives will no longer be the same.
